UNIT 1: REGULAR POLYGONS

REGULAR POLYGONS

Our first Technical Drawing Activity will be a mandala done with regular polygons. Here are a few tutorials to refresh your knowledge about the Regular Polygons' constructions.

Regular Polygons

Inscribed in a circle

We are going to draw polygons using two diferent methods: 'Inscribed in a circle' or 'given the side'.

1.REGULAR POLyGONS INSCRIBED IN A CIRCLE.

How to draw an equilateral triangle inscribed in a circle

How to draw a square inscribed in a circle

.HOW TO DRAW A REGULAR PENTAGON INSCRIBED IN A CIRCLE

How to draw a regular hexagon inscribed in a circle

How to draw a regular heptagon inscribed in a circle

HOW TO DRAW A REGULAR OCTAGON INSCRIBED IN A CIRCLE.

2.REGULAR POLyGONS KNOWING THE LENGHT OF ONE SIDE.

How to draw a regular pentagon knowing the length of one side

How to draw a regular hexagon knowing the length of one side

How to draw a regular heptagon knowing the length of one side

How to draw a regular octagon knowing the length of one side

Follow the instructions in the video, check your exercise and be sure it is right

Geometric construction of regular inscribed polygons. General method.

This is the method we use to draw any regular polygon inscribed in a circle, or divide the circumference into any number of equal parts. We are going to divide our polygon in 10 equal parts, remember to use parallel lines to apply the Thales Theorem as we learnt last year.

ACTIVITY 1: GEOMETRIC EYE

Let´s pratice the Basic Geometrical Constructions we have learnt by designing our own MANDALA.by drawing a "Geometric Eye"

FIRST DO A PRACTISE IN NORMAL PAPER

STEPS:
1- In the center of a normal paper you draw a circumference 8 cm radius.
2- Then you divide the circumference in 4 equal parts, then divide each sector using the "angle bisector construction" in 4 equal parts again. You will have a total of 16 equal parts.
3- You draw an inscribed circumference of 4 cm radius.

THEN DRAW THE FINAL WORK IN YOUR SKETCHBOOK

In the final drawing you will trace the lines with fine liners.

YOU WILL HAND IN THE BOTH THE PRACTISE AND THE FINAL WORK

THEORY AND PRACTISE FOR THE EXAM

Let's practise again with different videos, some of them in Spanish:

Another page to help you with the constructions is this one: EDUCACIÓN PLÁSTICA.
