UNIT 4: TESSELLATIONS

TESSELLATIONS

A tessellation, is  a repeating pattern of polygons that covers a plane with no gaps or overlaps.

What kind of tessellations can you make out of regular polygons?

This is the video we saw in class:

WHAT IS TESSELLATION?

If we look around us we can see that the shapes, triangles, squares, hexagons, are related to each other to occupy a large space; that is to say, they have interior lines that distribute and order the shapes. These are their structures that provide order and proportion. These structures are called tessellations.

tessellation or tiling is the covering of a surface, often a plane, using one or more geometric shapes, called tiles, with no overlaps and no gaps. In mathematics, tessellation can be generalized to higher dimensions and a variety of geometries.

Structures can be:

  • Regular: the elements that compose it are regular and follow a regular order. Symmetrical or radial organisations tend to predominate.

Irregular: they do not have a regular order and their elements are irregular. They are complex structures.

The shapes are related in space by structures that we call Tesselations. Thanks to this organisation, we can create modules that repeat until we fill the whole area.

The movements we can make in space are:

Transformations Translations, Reflections, Rotations, Lines of Symmetry

Tessellation symmetry

And these are some other ideas for your project:

UNIT 5: COLOUR

COLOUR WHEEL WITH COLOUR PENCILS

Draw an 8 cm radius circumference and divide it in 12 equal parts, then colour the primary, secondary and tertiary colours (in this order) using only the three primary colour pencils. Write the names of the colours and divide it in two parts, indicating warm and cool colour schemes.

INTERACTIVE COLOUR ACTIVITIES AND IDEAS

  • Color Palette Generator. Enter the URL of an image to get a color palette that matches the image. This is useful for coming up with a website color palette that matches a key image a client wants to work with.
    • Colour Method. A fantastic game to help you understand the colour wheel. It is created for Method of Action, which is a collection of tools, games and articles to help you learn design.
